How I’d be described in a novel
Valerie tapped her desk. Her eyes locked on the plain white clock at the front of the classroom. Watching as its black hands inched closer and closer to 3. The teacher sat her desk quietly marking work while the class sat in their various groups chatting quietly about school work and other things of no particular interest. Val’s eyes wandered about the room in her boredom and found a person not usually seen. The quiet boy who sat in the corner. His unremarkable face blank and bored. His understated brown eyes looking towards the window, his mind obviously elsewhere. Jolly. Jason Jolly. A name that was hard to forget. The name of this chameleon that blended himself so well into the classroom. Going by unnoticed by most. Even Val had hardly noticed him for the first term and Val noticed everything. His eyes flicked to her’s briefly and then back to the window, back to his day dreams. He rarely spoke in class unless spoken to. His voice soft and deep. He was liked by the teacher for his silent nature, intelligence and ability to hand in assignments on time. Val’s thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of the bell. The teacher quickly dismissed the raucous students. He stood, tall and spindle thin, his thick black hair a precocious mess that contrasted his rather neat appearance. Val exited after gathering her things and watched as he walked patiently behind a rambunctious mass of students. Soon he was just another face in the crowd. Val shook her head and thought about other things. All thoughts of Jason fading away. It was not ‘til a year later that she would notice him again in one of her classes. This time sat next a bright eyed blonde boy. Smiling devilishly. More animate than she’d ever seen him. laughing, talking and joking loudly. She often caught them doing or talking about unusual things. meaningless and random things, things that didn’t make any sense. His humour was random, often witty or sarcastic and almost always dirty. He had far more confidence in this class and was friends with just about everybody. Though he seemed to avoid Valerie. Catching him alone one day she asked him why he would not talk to her. He replied nervously that he was a unable to talk to beautiful girls easily and was especially scared of Val, whose eyes seemed to pierce through everybody. He smiled and said he had something he needed to do before running off. Val shook her head again, but this time the thoughts of Jason did not fade away.
